Working mainly in series within the genre of contemporary photographic portraiture my practice is concerned with breaking down pre-conceptions and engaging the viewer into a personal dialogue that begins to reflect on the lives of others.

Current work ‘Living Memory’ is concerned with the legacy and memory of WW2 an era that defined the lives of a whole generation. Through the medium of photography the work explores the passing of time within a single image enabling the viewer to reflect on the life of the sitter. For the series of work I was particularly interested in capturing these people who are living pieces of history from the war era, a living history which is very quickly diminishing. The work draws on the history of the WW2 Airfields of the Blackdown Hills where I lived for five years.

On-going series ‘Living with the land’ explores non bricks and mortar dwellers in the UK whose lives have a strong connection to the natural world. The works portrays those that have chosen to live in low impact dwellings and whose ethos is to lead a more sustainable life. The work is influenced by my own ethos and personal experience living as a non bricks and mortar dweller and conveys feelings of nostalgia and a yearning to connect to our roots as human beings.
